DJ Zinhle, also known as Zinhle Jiyane, will not be appearing at any events in Durban, the city where the man who had her kid, AKA, was killed.

On February 10, 2023, a shooting outside a restaurant in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, killed the rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes. Kairo, the daughter of Zinhle and AKA, was born to them.

In July, Durban city will be a hotspot for the entertainment sector as many celebrities flock to events like the eagerly awaited Cotton Festival and Durban July, among others.

DJ Zinhle had been scheduled to perform at the Fact Durban Rocks event during the Durban July, but she has since stated that she is not yet at ease travelling to Durban.

“I cannot lie to you guys, I’m not ready for Durban. Emotionally, I’m not ready at all. I get a little anxious thinking about being in Durban. It’s going to be a while before I can be in Durban,” DJ Zinhle said.

“I’m going through the most. Forget about seeing me in Durban. It’s not even that I am mad at Durban. It’s just hard. It’s only been three months since Kiernan died, so maybe with time. But I’m hoping I never change my mind,” she added.

DJ Zinhle acknowledged that she, too, was a little worried about Father’s Day coming up in a month.

“What am I going to say to Kairo on Father’s Day?” She posed.

AKA’s mother Lynn Forbes also expressed her reservations about visiting Durban.

During her interview on Carol Ofori’s show on East Coast Radio, she said: “I don’t believe I would never go back to Durban again. I think it’s natural at the moment. I have no desire to go to Durban at the moment. It’s not about Durban, but I think getting on a plane to Durban will just open up so much.

“So it’s not Durban as a place, it’s not Durban as people. I think Kiernan loved Durban, his fan base is there, and the Megacy is alive in Durban.

“One of the yearnings I have is to stand in the spot where he died, and just be there. I know his soul is not there any more and his body is not there any more, but that is the last place where he was alive.”
