Ghanaian actress and activist Yvonne Nelson has turned to Twitter to urge for a renewed effort in response to the ongoing power crisis in Ghana.

Nelson, known for her involvement in the 2015 #DumsorMustStop campaign, expressed disappointment with the current government’s handling of the situation. On April 22, 2024, she called on civil society group Imani Ghana to join her in organizing another demonstration, recalling the impact of their past collaboration.

Addressing Imani Ghana directly, Nelson highlighted their previous success in mobilizing support for the cause and criticized the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and President Nana Akufo-Addo for what she sees as neglecting the concerns of Ghanaians.

Using the hashtag #DUMSORMUSTSTOP, which gained traction during the previous power crisis, Nelson’s call for action reflects the growing frustration among Ghanaians over the persistent energy challenges facing the country.

Since late 2023, many parts of Ghana have experienced frequent power outages, disrupting both businesses and daily life. Despite government officials denying the return of ‘dumsor’ and dismissing the need for a timetable, citizens continue to feel the impact of the power cuts.

Nelson’s plea for a renewed campaign echoes the sentiments of many who believe that urgent action is needed to address the energy crisis and prevent further disruptions to daily life.
