Chirau Ali Makwere has officially resigned from the Jubilee government to rejoin politics. Makwere becomes the first diplomat to ditch his job for elective politics.
Makwere, popularly known as Zipapa, resigned from his diplomatic position appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to join Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s party ODM. Reports indicate that the Kwale gubernatorial aspirant was on Sunday, February 12 received by thousands of excited ODM supporters at the Kenya-Tanzania border.
The veteran politician is set to battle incumbent Salim Mvurya who defected to Jubilee for the Kwale gubernatorial seat in the August 8 elections.
“I will hit the ground running for the next five months to capture the governor seat,” Makwere told supporters at the Lunga Lunga border.
He would then be received to ODM by deputy party leader and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.
Makwere lost the senatorial seat In 2013, on the defunct URP ticket to Boy Juma Boy of ODM who passed on Sunday, February 12 at the Aga Khan Hospital.
