This you have to see; The case of an engaged couple living in Abu Dhabi, imprisoned after doctors found out the woman was pregnant, has now gone public, after the man’s mother started pleading to the public to hear about their dramatic situation.
Here is the full story:
Neither Culverwell’s co-workers nor any family members have been able to seem them until now. They have not been charged yet because authorities are still investigating how long the couple was sexually active, and whether they are HIV-positive.
Culverwell, who works as a water rescue operative at Yas Waterworld, and Noahi, who is an administration officer, have been dating since 2014, and were already planning on getting married.
Culverwell’s mother, Linda, had asked South Africa’s foreign ministry for help, but they allege they cannot do anything, because it would imply meddling with the UAE’s laws.
Independent legal representation for the couple could cost up to $8‚000 each, an amount neither family has available.
“The only thing they did wrong was fall in love,” Linda claims, adding that her family is “trying to get messages to the two to say we love them and they shouldn’t be worried,” because it has been impossible to get in contact with them.
They are evaluating the costs of traveling to Abu Dhabi to try and help with their dire situation.
Until now, a judge has refused to marry the couple –a possible solution for these situations– an act which a Christian Church in Yas Island, UAE offered for a hefty price.
The Islamic legal offense for which Nohai is being charged, is named “Zina”, which refers to sexual intercourse outside marriage, unlawful in the UAE.
Those couples guilty of Zina in UAE are deported or imprisoned for at least a year. Hundreds of women are jailed each year for this crime, whether they are pregnant or rape victims.
