13 Reasons Why backlash won’t have any impact on season 2

“They’re going to tell the story that we think needs to be told.”

13 Reasons Why received a fair amount of backlash when the first season rolled out, but according to the show’s stars, it won’t change anything for season two.

Dylan Minnette and Katherine Langford – who play Clay Jensen and Hannah Baker respectively – spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the new episodes they’re currently shooting.

Minnette revealed that the writers are continuing to do their own thing, and that the controversy over some of the more divisive content (such as the events of the season one finale) will not “change the storytelling that needs to be done”.

“Whether that will have an impact or change the storytelling that needs to be done in season two, I don’t think so.

“I think they’re, again, going to tell the story that we think needs to be told and tell it, and try to do the best job that we can, like last year.”

Langford then said: “I’m not sure how I can answer without giving away too much about season two. All I can say is, I feel like we continue the discussion from season one.”

A release date for the second season of 13 Reasons Why has not been announced yet.

The cast are currently shooting, and Kate Walsh confirmed that her character – Hannah’s mother Olivia – will look to get to the bottom of her daughter’s death.
