On Wednesday, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) released a message on the prospective running mate of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, on the microblogging platform Twitter.
Remember that the former Governor of Lagos State received 1,271 votes to defeat his nearest challenger, former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, who received 316 votes, and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who received 235 votes.

There had been rumors that Tinubu might choose a Muslim as his running mate in 2023, which he refuted, alleging it was a ruse spread by his adversaries.

However, on Wednesday, a Twitter user known as Ssaasquatch wrote on his page that Tinubu might have a hard time choosing a running mate for the 2023 election.

“He will run with a Muslim VP,” the NNPC official handle wrote in response to the post.

However, NNPC quickly removed the message and added a disclaimer.

“The general public is hereby advised that on June 8, 2022 at 6:35 pm, #NNPCLimited’s Twitter handle (@NNPCgroup) was compromised and utilized to transmit an unacceptable message,” the disclaimer reads. The security problem has been resolved, and the Twitter handle has been restored.

“#NNPCLimited desires to reassure the general public that it is dedicated to conducting business in the most ethical manner possible at all times.”
