Ethel Gustone, 23, was arrested in Kawale Township, Lilongwe, for reportedly killing her three-month-old baby girl and throwing her in a stream in the city’s Area 23.
The suspect killed her infant and wrapped her in a sack bag before throwing the bag into Msambeta Stream, according to Kawale Police Public Relations Officer Mabvuto Phiri.
“The incident gained attention after a farmer discovered the toddler floating in Msambeta Stream, which is near to his land.” Later, he requested police assistance at Area 23.
“Detectives responded to the situation and successfully apprehended the suspect on June 19, 2022,” Phiri added.
Gustone is scheduled to appear in court soon to face the murder charge. She is from Kavithiwa Village in the Zomba District’s Area of Traditional Authority Chikowi.
