If Ike Ekweremadu, a former deputy senate president, and his wife, Beatrice, will stand trial in the UK on charges of human trafficking, the attorney general of England and Wales will make that decision within 14 days.

The Ekweremadus were charged on Thursday and detained until July 7 pending additional investigation at the Uxbridge Magistrates Court.

The court was informed by Damla Ayas, the crown prosecutor, that “part of the charges” against the pair were made in Nigeria.

He claimed that because the case was “special,” the attorney general, Sue-Ellen Braverman (above), would have to decide where the trial should take place.

The Ekweremadus were reportedly accused of transporting a kid to the UK for organ harvesting, according to a Thursday statement from the London Metropolitan Police.

According to the London Metropolitan Police, charges were filed after a specialized crime unit investigation.

The inquiry was started, according to the police, after investigators were made aware of possible violations of the modern slavery statute in May 2022.

WHAT WE CURRENTLY KNOW

In support of a potential kidney donor for his daughter’s transplant, Ekweremadu wrote a letter to the British high commission in Nigeria in December 2021.

He added that he will “be giving the required funding” and that the donor and his daughter “shall be at the Royal Free Hospital London.”

The donor is listed as being 21 on his international passport, but according to the Met police, he claims to be 15 and is therefore considered a minor.

According to the prosecution, the doctor at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead was scheduled to see the “teenager,” but he declined because of his concerns “about the 15-year-old child.”

Before going to a police station, he went back to the Ekweremadus’ London address.

Considering that he is now a minor.
