Kashim Shettima, the former governor of Borno State, was chosen by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, without consulting party members, according to Senator Elisha Ishaku Abbo, who represents Adamawa North in the National Assembly.
The choice of Shettima to lead a Muslim-Muslim ticket has put the ruling party in disarray ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Many APC members, particularly in the North, have urged Tinubu to change his mind and choose a fellow Northern Christian to run alongside him.
Speaking on the appointment of Shettima, Abbo charged the former governor of Lagos State with failing to conduct any sort of consultation before Shettima was chosen.
No consultation took place. There was no consultation, so anyone who claims there was is telling you a giant lie. With whom was there a consultation? I blame Mr. President for that, he said, according to The Sun.
Abbo responded to rumors that President Muhammadu Buhari had been granted the opportunity to choose his running mate by saying, “Of course, we all know who Buhari is. He claimed to be worn out and eager to return home. Maybe he reminded them of his prior claim that he was exhausted when they first met.
The fact that there was no consultation is still true. To maybe buy some time to visit with one or two people and bribe them, they set up the placeholder.
