President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the third highest paid leader in West Africa, per a list.
Alassane Ouattara of the Ivory Coast and George Manneh Weah of Liberia have reportedly defeated Akufo-Addo for the top position, according to a report from Business Insider.
The report that lists the 15 highest paid African presidents lists Akufo-salary Adio’s at $76,000. This amounts to about $6,300 USD per month.
Between Paul Kagame of Rwanda in position 12 (with US$85,000) and Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi in position 14 (with US$76,000), Akufo-Addo is listed at number 14. With $69,000, Nigeria’s Muhammadu Buhari is last on the list.
“One thing of concern is that the annual salaries of most leaders are well above the country’s GDP per capita or average wages. This is why many young citizens are curious to discover how much African leaders earn so that they can compare their pay packets with the average salaries and GDPs of other respective countries,” the report read in part.
The study estimates that the GDP of Ghana is comparable to 2,188 times the president’s annual salary.
The article claims that the data used to determine salaries was “mined from country websites and statistics from agencies like the International Monetary Fund and the CIA World Factbook.”
The top five paid African presidents are listed below.
a. Paul Biya of Cameroon – US$620,976
b. King Mohammed IV of Morocco – US$488,604
c. Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa – US$223,500
