Nigerian singer Asa has fined Joeboy N300 million for violating copyright.

In her lawsuit, she alleged that his newly released song, Contour, was copied verbatim from a musical composition she had created and recorded on September 22, 2020.

Afropop musician Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa, aka Joeboy, has received a copyright infringement warning, according to Nigerian music legend Bukola Elemide, also known as Asa.

She alleged that her musical composition, which she recorded on September 22nd, 2020, was copied in his recently released song, Contour.

The female singer requested N300 million and a 60% (sixty percent) publishing split on the song in a letter she sent to Joeboy through her management.

The singer of “Bibanke” instructed him to take the song off of all DSPs and other platforms right away and within twenty-four (24) hours. She also asked for an apology in writing.

The letter read in part; ”It has been brought to our attention that your newly released song, Contour (the “Song”), infringes on the copyright of our Client, as recorded/captured in a musical composition (the “Composition”) which she created in a recording session, which took place on 22 September 2020, with the producer of the Song, Alageu Michael Chidozie (p.k.a Tempoe) in attendance.

It added; ”We hereby demand that you immediately remove the Song from all DSPs and any other platforms within twenty-four (24) hours of your receipt of this letter, with a written apology issued to our Client as well as halt any additional infringements of our Composition, including any other infringements.

We demand that our Client receive N300,000,000 (Three Hundred Million Naira) in addition to a 60% (Sixty Percent) publishing split on the Song.

Joeboy responded to the notification on his Instagram account, saying that they were attempting to ride on him because to his likeable demeanor.

He underlined that the 24-hour period had passed and dared Asa and her management to proceed with any legal actions they desired to take.

The musician added, “LOL,” along with a screenshot of the letter he received from Asa’s agent.
