Rapper Nicki Minaj, who is Trinidadian-American, expressed her displeasure on Instagram live on Thursday over the removal of her song “Super Freaky Girl” from the Grammys Rap category.
Nicki made mention of her ambitions to travel to Ghana, a country in West Africa, during her conversations with fans.
The honoree revealed that she would collaborate with a Ghanaian artist, whose identity was kept a secret, on “something huge.”
“When am I coming to Ghana? I would love to come to Ghana. I actually may be doing something major, a business type of situation with an artiste from Ghana really soon,” said Nicki in a lengthy video shared with her 202 million Instagram followers.
The recording academy’s decision to nominate the musician, who has been nominated for 10 Grammys and has yet to win one, in the pop category rather than the rap category for her song “Super Freaky Girl,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in August, has drawn criticism.
“If you can’t tell by now that there is a concerted effort to give newer artists things that they really don’t deserve over people who have been deserving for many years, then you’re not paying attention,” she said.
