The collapse of a multi-story skyscraper being built in Nairobi has been attributed by a member of the Kenyan parliament to corruption.
On Thursday, two individuals were killed when the structure fell onto a nearby house.
The Kenyan capital has experienced two building collapses in the last week.
“It is all about corruption because no one wants to touch such a property because probably the owners are known, they have the power, they have the money to bribe their way everywhere. But we really need to amend, even empower and make sure we empower the National Construction Authority because they also have no power to bring down such a building”, denounced Njuguna Kawanjiku, Member of Parliament for Kiambaa constituency.
In the Ruaka suburb, three more persons were found still alive in the ruins of a family home that was near to the collapsed structure.
In Nairobi, where there is a huge demand for housing and shady developers frequently flout regulations, building collapses are widespread.
