Police in Ashanti region have confirmed the arrest four customers of beleaguered gold dealership company Menzgold over their involvement in violent demonstration In Kumasi on Tuesday January 8, 2018.

The suspects were among hundreds of aggrieved customers who hit the streets of the Kumasi Metropolis without police permit to demonstrate against the company and government over the locked up investments

MyNewsGh.com gathered that police prior to the demonstration had warned the customers not to embark on the exercise with the explanation they did not have enough men to provide them with protection but they reportedly defied the caution and hit the streets.

Though police were immediately deployed to the scene to ensure that nothing untoward happened, the suspects were said to have conducted themselves in a violent manner for which reason they were picked.

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the demonstration which saw the customers were blocking major roads within the Kumasi city while matching to the Manhyia Palace to present a petition to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is illegal.

Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Godwin Ahianyo confirmed the arrest to MyNewsGh.com and said the police will have emergency meeting with the leaders of embittered Menzgold customers  to determine the next line of action.

Meanwhile, spokesperson of the coalition of aggrieved customers of Menzgold, Francis Owusu is calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to intervene in the matter as several persons have lost their livelihood to the company threatening more of such violent demonstrations in the future.

“It is going to be one of the mega protests that has even happened in this country because all the Menzgold customers across the country will be coming to Kumasi to protest against the insensitivity of our president towards our plight. We have petitioned Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on this issue and we have been to his office for about three times so we are going to send a letter of reminder to Otumfuo’s office,” he said.
