The impending governorship elections across the nation have been rescheduled, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Head of the Information and Voter Education Committee, made the announcement on Wednesday evening. The election will not take place on March 11 as originally planned.

The governor election will now take place on March 18, 2023, according to the electoral umpire.
The INEC announced that gubernatorial elections would be held until Thursday, March 16, 2023, at midnight.
Okoye said: “The decision has not been taken lightly, but it is necessary to ensure that there is adequate time to back up the data stored on the over 176,000 BVAS machines from the presidential and national assembly elections held on the 25th of February 2023 and then to reconfigure them for the governorship and state house of assembly election.
“This has been the practice for all elections, including the period when the Commission was using the smart card readers.”
The Commission stated that it does not object to litigants seeing election materials, and it further stated that it would continue to give all litigants access to the election materials they need in order to successfully argue their claims in court.
