Christian Atsu’s wife appeared to maintain a straight face as she entered the grounds of the State House, where her husband’s burial is being held.

Earlier in the day, sympathisers surrounded Marie-Claire Rupio as she carried one of her children, flanked by two other children and her mother.

Her breaking point came when it was time to deliver her tribute.

She began to cry as soon as she began reading the tribute.

A sentimental While taking a step back to dry her emotions, Marie handed over the homage to Atsu’s sister to continue on her behalf.

Family, friends, footballers, and top celebrities, including President Akufo-Addo, gathered today to pay their respects to the late Hatayspor player.

Atsu, 31, was discovered dead on February 18, 2023, after the horrific earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6, killing over 50,000 people in both countries.
