While anti-inflation marches in Nairobi clashed with police on Monday, Kenya’s opposition leader Raila Odinga called for weekly demonstrations.
“Every Monday there will be a strike, there will be a demonstration. The war has begun, it will not end until Kenyans have obtained their rights,” said Raila Odinga in front of his supporters, who continue to claim that the presidential election of August 9 was “stolen” and that the government of William Ruto is “illegitimate”.
During Mr. Odinga’s convoy earlier, police used water cannons and tear gas.
The first significant uprising since William Ruto assumed office was this one.
On Sunday, the authorities outlawed the anti-inflation protest movement after it reached 9.2% in February, the highest level in a year in the East African nation.
