The CAF has formally announced the dates for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, with the opening game set for Saturday, January 23, 2024.
In Ebimpe, Abidjan, at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, the opening ceremony and game will be held.
On February 11, 2024, the four-week competition between the top 24 countries in Africa would officially come to an end.
The tournament, which is in its 34th year and will be held in Cote d’Ivoire for the second time, first took place there in 1984 and saw Cameroon win the championship for the first time.
Following the dramatic qualifying round this past weekend, six additional nations have confirmed their participation in the competition, joining the host nation.
Senegal, the reigning champion, Morocco, Algeria, South Africa, Burkina Faso, and Tunisia are the nations that have qualified.
After matchdays five and six in June and September, respectively, the final 17 spots will be decided.
Veron Mosengo-Omba, general secretary of the CAF, also declared that the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final draw will take place in Cote d’Ivoire in September of this year.
The CAF is predicting record global TV viewership and stadium attendances for the 2019 edition of its flagship competition, which is also currently the largest event in Africa due to the fast expanding global interest in CAF competitions that has been observed in recent months.
