The rating of Ghana’s tourism sector this year by the CNN as one of the best destinations to visit is already receiving positive responses from European countries.

France, in response to the report has sent some journalists to Ghana to explore Ghana’s tourism sites to encourage it citizens to visit Ghana during this year’s summer period.

The CNN recently rated Ghana as the fourth most interesting tourism places to visit out of 19 countries across the world.

Speaking to Citi Business News on the development, Senior Vice President for Air France Africa, Frank Legre who disclosed that the airline brought a number of French journalists to Ghana also stated that the airline is trying to take advantage of Ghana’s growing tourism industry to encourage more French people to visit Ghana this year.

“We believe there is potential of tourism to Accra. Accra as destination for tourism on the French market is not known too much and this why we decided to come here with French journalists to show them the Gold Coast. We are going to Elmina castle and other fantastic sites,” he explained.

Mr. Legre was of the view that the decision to bring more French journalists to Ghana will whip up interest among French people to visit Ghana.

Touching on Ghana’s aviation industry, he stated that Ghana is in good position to attain the feat as an aviation hub in the West African sub region.

Government is planning to set up a national carrier as part of efforts to increase investment in the country’s aviation sector.

Background

In the news report by CNN, Ghana, which is West Africa’s poster nation for economic success and political stability is hoping to trade up its tourism status for 2019, with a campaign targeting the African diaspora whose ancestors were victims of the brutal slave trade of centuries gone by.

Ghana’s ‘Year of Return’ marks 400 years since the first enslaved Africans arrived in North America.

It’s a somber recognition of the evil that befell Ghana’s past inhabitants and their descendants — and the strength with which they’ve faced it.
