Following pressure from mediators, the warring parties in Sudan decided to extend a tenuous ceasefire on Monday.

Saudi Arabia and the United States announced the five-day extension of the ceasefire between the Sudanese military and its adversary, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), late on Monday.
On Monday, the final day of the previous ceasefire, clashes shook the capital Khartoum. In preparation for fresh conflict, both sides had used the previous seven days to restock and fortify their positions.

After a months-long power struggle between Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, Sudan plunged into turmoil in the middle of April.
At least 866 civilians have died in the battle, and many more have been injured.
