Today, Tuesday, July 11, 2023, the remodelled Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park will formally reopen to the public after a brief closure to make preparations for commercial operations.

The park is situated next to the Arts Centre on the Atta Mills Highway in Accra, where it attracted a lot of attention when it first opened last week.

The public was made aware of the park’s refurbished and modernised state in a statement released by Mr. Edward Quao, the park’s acting director.

A Presidential Library, a reception area, an amphitheatre, a cafeteria, Freedom Hall, and a digitalized payment and entry system are among the park’s improvements.

The park has received significant renovations, totalling more than GH30 million in costs.

The former President’s voice and images can now be heard and seen by visitors thanks to the addition of new marble to the tombstone and the addition of an audio-visual tunnel to the museum.

The museum also displays Kwame Nkrumah’s personal items, including as his books, clothing, bedding, and bags.

Notably, the park now has an improved VVIP Lounge, a larger leisure space, a more modern gift shop, and a fountain that is synchronised with audiovisuals, similar to the musical fountain at the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

The ancient bronze statue of Dr. Nkrumah, which had been damaged during the coup in 1966, is also prominently displayed in the park. The severed head of the statue has been reinstalled next to it.

The antique Cadilac, a state car used by the former President and prominently displayed in Freedom Hall, is one of the park’s features.

This car, which was built in the United States and given Bulgarian bulletproof features, is significant historically.

The inner perimeter roads within the park have been rebuilt as part of the extensive reconstruction that started in July of last year, improving accessibility and the visitor experience.

An crucial milestone has been reached with the reopening of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, allowing visitors to experience the upgraded amenities and fully immerse themselves in the former President’s legacy.
