National Organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku has launched a scathing attack at a section of the public and members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) who are trying to make mincemeat out of the recruitment of Bright Ernest Akomea popularly known as ‘Double’ as an national security operative.

Mr. Awuku who is mounting a spirited defense for Double many described as his ally, disclosed that different persons with different backgrounds and professions have been recruited as operatives to serve different purposes.

He dropped a hint that even prostitutes, shoemakers and cleaners have made their way into Ghana’s National Security explaining the service is about intelligence gathering and not brawn power.

Double who appeared before the Justice Emil Short Commission probing the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence, was mocked at by many because he spoke through an interpreter with others claiming he is unfit for the job.

But the NPP executive who disagrees on Thursday said “I was amazed at reaction from my brothers in the NDC and other Ghanaians criticizing the recruitment of Double into the national security. Let me tell them that national security is an intelligence unit which needs ordinary people to give out information”

Arguing further on Accra-based Okay Fm MyNewsGh.com monitored why Double was specifically recruited, he added “In fact, if they don’t know, then I will tell them today that Double was recruited for a special reason. The national security you see there have cleaners, shoemakers and even prostitutes working there to provide information. If they expect to see a doctor or even a lawyer as a national security person, then they would be disappointed. They can find out from Bryan Acheampong” he challenged.

But Security Analyst, Adam Bona believes Double’ is unfit for his current position .

He is of the view that he could at best be assigned the role of an informant at most and not his current position as an operative into mainstream operations.

“This is not a normal thing. But he goes ahead to confirm the suspicion that party faithful are usually taken into the national security. The main point is, is he qualified to be in the mainstream National Security? I will say no. At best is, he is just an informant assigned with a specific duty. He went out there to train in arms, learn how to arm, disarm and discharge firearms- for me is not the best,” Bona disclosed

Arguing further he observed that English is the official language of the country and the inability of an operative to read and write is also a minus on the part of such a person.
