Confirmed Fatality and Missing Individuals Result from Collapse of Grand Rig in Delta State, August 15th
In Delta State on the 15th of August, a tragic event unfolded as a majestic rig collapsed, resulting in the confirmation of one individual’s death and the declaration of three others as missing.

Operated by Nigerian oil company Depthwize and contracted through the Seplat/Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited joint venture, the swamp drilling rig collapsed during the early hours of Tuesday. The rig was en route to its intended drilling site at Ovhor in Delta State when the collapse occurred.
Seplat Energy Plc acknowledged the incident later on Tuesday, noting that out of the 96 crew members, 92 had been accounted for and were safe. The CEO of the company, Mr. Roger Brown, stated:
“It is with deep regret that Seplat Energy reports a significant incident involving the ‘Majestic’ swamp drilling rig, operated by Depthwise, in the early hours of this morning. Seplat, as the operator of the SEPLAT/NNPCL joint venture, had contracted the rig. It was on its way to its designated drilling location at Ovhor in Delta State when it capsized.
“Among the 96-member crew, 92 have been located and are secure. Tragically, one fatality occurred during the incident, and three other members of the rig’s personnel remain unaccounted for.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the crew member who lost their life, as well as to the three crew members who are currently missing. Our emergency response and rescue teams are actively engaged, working alongside the rig’s owner and the relevant authorities at the scene. Our utmost focus remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of all those impacted and their families.
