Recall that polls done by the Pew Research Centre between 2008 and 2017 showed that Nigeria was the nation with the highest level of prayer in 2019.
The least pious nations include China (1%), the United Kingdom (6%), Switzerland (8%), Austria (8%), Czechia (9%), Germany (9%), Estonia (9%) France (10%), and Denmark (10%).
The report says: “compared with weekly worship attendance, daily prayer is somewhat more common around the world.
“In the average country across 105 surveyed, about half of adults (49%) say they pray every day, including majorities in sub-Saharan Africa (75%), the Middle East and North Africa (70%) and Latin America (62%).
Asia as a whole has a very diverse pattern of prayer. There is a global pattern of high levels of prayer in Muslim-majority countries (prayer is one of the Five Pillars of Islam), as evidenced by the fact that 96% of Afghans and 87% of Iranians, both countries with a disproportionately Muslim population, report praying everyday.
In India, which has a majority of Hindus, daily prayer is also highly common—75% of people pray every day—but much less so in several other Asian countries, such as Vietnam (14%) and China (1%). Reads the report
