The Algeria Football Federation has expressed a keen interest in recruiting Jose Peseiro, the current coach of the Super Eagles, as their new manager.

This interest arises in the aftermath of Djamel Belmadi’s dismissal following Algeria’s disappointing performance at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where they were unable to progress beyond the Group stages.
Belmadi’s termination was a consequence of his inability to guide the national team successfully through the Group stages. Notably, Peseiro guided Nigeria to the final of the 34th edition of the AFCON, where they faced a 2-1 defeat against the host nation, Ivory Coast.

Jose Peseiro’s contract with Nigeria is set to conclude at the end of the month, and the decision regarding his future lies with the Federal Government.
Algerian publication DZ Foot reported that Walid Sadi, the president of the Algerian football federation, is impressed by Peseiro’s qualifications and is open to discussing the possibility of him assuming the role of the national team’s coach.
“Not made public, the shortlist established by the ad-hoc commission set up by the FAF, is made up of three names, namely José Peseiro (63 years old), Vladimir Petkovic (60 years old) and Carlos Queiroz (70 years old),” the website wrote.
While the name of Carlos Queiroz has come back in force in recent days as being the final choice of the FAF, according to our information this would ultimately not be the case and José Peseiro becomes the preferential choice of Walid Sadi.
“Indeed the one who took Nigeria to the CAN 2023 final would be in direct contact with the president of the Algerian football federation who would have been seduced by his profile and his speech without forgetting the financial aspect.”
