Today, Ghana’s Supreme Court will deliver its verdict on the dispute between Ghanaian celebrities and the Food and Drugs Authority regarding the prohibition on celebrity endorsement of alcoholic beverages. Mark Darlington, the manager of Reggie and Bollie, announced this development in a social media post.
He said “SUPREME COURT JUDGEMENT IS TODAY !! Just to alert you that the FDA Celebrity Ban Court judgement will be given TODAY, Wednesday, 8th May 2024, at the SUPREME COURT premises, Accra. Time: 9.30am Sharp! Thnx”.
The FDA in Ghana has prohibited celebrities from endorsing alcoholic beverages within the country.
This move has sparked discontent among prominent figures who rely on such endorsements for financial gain.
The ban, implemented by the FDA in 2015, aligns with a World Health Organization directive.
The regulatory body cited concerns about safeguarding children and curbing the potential influence of alcohol advertising on them as reasons for the decision.
