Chidimma Adetshina, a beauty queen of Nigerian descent residing in South Africa, is on the brink of losing her South African ID and travel documents.
Chidimma, widely recognized for her participation in the Miss South Africa pageant, faced mounting scrutiny over her eligibility due to questions surrounding her nationality. This ultimately led her to withdraw from the pageant and enter the Miss Universe Nigeria competition, where she emerged victorious.
On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs announced that Chidimma, now 22 and the daughter of a Nigerian father, would have her South African identification revoked.
According to BBC, her mother’s documents will also be canceled due to their failure to provide sufficient justification for retaining them by the department’s deadline.
Tommy Makhode, a senior official at Home Affairs, told the BBC that Chidimma’s case had been referred to the Hawks, a special police unit, after an investigation indicated that the case involved fraud.
