Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, has lauded former Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his transformative leadership and commitment to economic reforms during his tenure.
In a letter dated January 8, 2025, the day after Akufo-Addo concluded his presidency, Ms. Georgieva expressed her appreciation for his contributions to Ghana’s progress.
“As you transition from your role as President of Ghana following fair and peaceful elections, I want to express my gratitude for your leadership during your time in office,” she wrote. “The policies and reforms during your administration have laid the groundwork for Ghana’s future.”
Ms. Georgieva also acknowledged Akufo-Addo’s instrumental role in advocating for Sub-Saharan Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic, commending his efforts to secure essential resources to address the crisis.
Reflecting on Ghana’s partnership with the IMF, she noted: “I also want to salute the excellent collaboration your government has had with the International Monetary Fund. The recent completion of the third review of the IMF-supported program and the progress made toward restoring macroeconomic stability over the past few years are a testament to a successful partnership.”
Concluding her message, the IMF chief applauded Akufo-Addo’s dedication to meaningful reforms that have positioned Ghana for a brighter future. “These achievements reflect your dedication to important reforms, offering a positive outlook for the future. Thank you for your service and leadership. I wish you the best in your future endeavors.”
