A heated confrontation between the Majority and Minority caucuses of the Appointments Committee led to a chaotic scene during the vetting of two key ministerial nominees, Kwabena Akandoh (Health) and Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa (Foreign Affairs).

Tensions flared when the Minority caucus demanded that the vetting be postponed to Friday, January 31, 2025, while the Majority insisted on proceeding immediately. The disagreement quickly escalated, with Minority members resorting to flipping tables, raising chairs, and damaging microphones, effectively disrupting the session.

As tempers flared, some members of the Majority reacted angrily, intensifying the altercation. The ensuing chaos ultimately forced the committee to halt proceedings, as the destruction of property made it impossible to continue.

Following the disruption, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga highlighted that the damage to microphones made further discussions unfeasible.

He later announced that the vetting would be rescheduled to take place in the Speaker’s Conference Room—a significantly smaller venue, limiting public access to the session.
