Dancehall and reggae artist Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr. known professionally as Shatta Wale has asked government to declare today a holiday in celebration of his collaboration with Beyoncé.
According to Shatta Wale, it would be great if the Akufo-Addo led administration take his request into consideration and make today July 19 a work-free-day.
He said that will be a way we can celebrate the success of our musicians in the country for entertaining us with good songs and putting Ghana on the map.
American superstar Beyoncé has released her ‘Lion King: The Gift’ Album which had Shatta Wale featuring on the song ‘Already’.
The much-awaited song has got social media talking, with people sharing varied views about the song.
Sections of the public are showering praises on the head honcho of the Shatta Movement Empire for his masterclass delivery on the song.
Whilst others have also noted that they are disappointed in him because the song is below par.
Speaking on the Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Shatta Wale urged Ghanaians to rally behind the musicians in the country because they are doing extremely well and need to be celebrated, noting that it is not easy to write songs.
“This morning I was telling Bulldog, this should be a day we should all be happy about from today we need to celebrate our musicians for their success that Koo Nimo, Amakye Dede, Daddy Lumba, Nana Acheampong, they all wished to put Ghana on the map like this” he told Andy Dosty
“Being in a studio is not an easy thing. Andy you’ve been there a couple of times and you know what I mean. To rack your brain to write lyrics is not an easy thing. So I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everybody. But they need to celebrate us we go through a lot not only me, but we need to celebrate Ghana musicians from today.”
He added , “Today should even be a holiday if the ministry and government are listening to me”
Shatta Wale pleaded with the government to pay attention to the creative arts industry like the sports industry.
He argued that like the soccer team who are always being supported for international tournaments, musicians are also always out there doing their best for the country and deserve their share of the cake.
“Now I’m playing a World Cup for Ghana. Every radio station is playing this song [Beyonce — Already feat Shatta Wale X Major Lazer] just because Shatta Wale is on and he’s their own” he indicated
