A boy by name Amadu Yussif , 15 years of age has been shot by the police in walewale in the north eastern part of Ghana creating alot of tension and anger in the community.
According to reports , the said boy was amongst his friends who went to a popular night club in walewale where they went to have fun and holding a disco jam while going against the lockdown rules that were set for all to follow.
Police in Walewale who received a tip off from an unknown caller rushed to the scene where the party was going on and tried to arrest the people who were gathered at the event for persecution as many run away upon seeing the police vehicle .
Municipal Police Commander of Walewale, DSP Paul Peter Akabati who granted an interview to 3news stated that they received a call around 11:30pm which made him round up his men to the location of the incident.
According to him ,those outside the entertainment center who saw the police ran away, but others started throwing stones at them as they tried to arrest the people who were at the club.
Speaking on the shooting incident,he stated that tho there were some firing of guns at the scene ,the police were not responsible for the shooting of the boy.
DSP added that upon the throwing of stones and shouting people inside the club realised the police had come around and some decided to run for their life and others kept throwing stones which lead to the police firing two warning shot in the air .
This, he said, calmed the tension but later heard that someone was injured.
police rushed the victim to the Walewale Municipal Hospital and he was admitted and attended to at the emergency ward.
The commander further revealed that some ammunition penetrated through the victims bottoms which he believes is as a result of the victim climbing the tree.
DSP Akabati disclosed that health personnel will be conducting an X-Ray on him Monday, June 8 to know the level of injury.
He revealed that investigation has commenced into the matter.
The organizers of the event have been invited to assist in investigations. No arrest has, however, been made so far.
