Flag bearer hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has stated categorically that God pushed Ghanaians to elect New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the 2016 polls in order to expose their lies and deceit, MyNewsGh.com reports

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by current President Nana Addo Addo Dankwa  Akufo-Addo won overwhelmingly in 2016 general elections.

It would be recalled that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo polled 5,755,758 votes representing 53.72% as against former President John Dramani Mahama who polled 4,771,188 votes representing 44.53% to emerge victorious at the polls.

Various reasons were ascribed as the cause of the defeat of the then ruling government blaming lies and deceit claiming the opposition party during 2016 campaign season promised Ghanaians 1 district 1 factory, Free SHS, 1 village 1 dam, 1 district 1 warehouse and host of others.

Former President John Dramani Mahama who was however addressing NDC delegates at Okere in the Eastern Region as part on his 5-day tour in the region said NPP and President Akufo-Addo deceived Ghanaians with juicy promises during 2016 elections.

According to him, Ghanaians voted for NPP and Nana Addo during 2016 elections based on the party’s deceit and lies coupled with its lofty promises it has since failed to fulfill them.

“I strongly believe that God pushed Ghanaians to vote for NPP and Akufo-Addo just to expose their lies and propaganda. They lied their way to power. They convinced Ghanaians with juicy promises. Ghanaians are now crying for NDC to take them to the promise land. Where are their promises such as Ghanaians 1 district 1 factory, 1 village 1 dam, 1 district 1 warehouse?” John Mahama asked.

He therefore urged NDC delegates to choose a leader who can fight for NDC victory in 2020 elections.
