Former President John Dramani Mahama is calling for credit for previous political administrations including his for the various roles played in the realization of the climax of the road map to peace started by the President John Agyekum Kufuor administration in 2002.

The former President who arrived in Tamale a while ago enroute to Yendi for the coronation of Yo-Naa Abukari Mahama II as the substantive overlord of Dagbang to be held at the Gbewaa Palace said the historic event is as a result of collaborative engagements by successive governments, the two Royal Gates of Dagbang and the Committee of Eminent Persons chaired by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Expressing joy ahead of the climaxing of the road map to peace he said on his Facebook page MyNewsGh.com sighted” Today’s coronation is the result of years of collaborative engagements by successive governments, the two Royal Gates of Dagbang and the Committee of Eminent Persons chaired by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Dagbang will today showcase the rich tradition and culture of our people.”

He added “working together, the Eminent Chiefs appointed to help resolve the very challenging Dagbang chieftaincy dispute, the Andani and Abudu Royal Families and the people of Ghana, this major success has been achieved and we have a new Yaa-Naa.”

The former President was met at the Tamale airport by the  minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu and NDC executives from the Northern Region.

On Friday January 18, 2019 the kingmakers who consulted the Dagbang oracles successfully completed   the traditional processes and settled on Yo-Naa Abubakari Mahama as the new Ya-Naa.

Yo-Naa was among four persons including Nyab Tampion-Lana, Nyab Kampakuya-Naa and Nyab Boling-Lana whose names came up as possible successors of the late Ya-Naa whose funerals have all be performed.

The consulting elders include Gushei Naa and Kuganaa who nominated the Chief of Savelugu to succeed the late Ya Naa Yakubu Andani II who died in 2002.
