This was confirmed by President of the Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors of Ghana (ABCECG), Prosper Yao Ledi.
Mr. Ledi however tells Citi Business News he is hoping government follows through in paying all arrears.
Mr. Ledi said government started paying contractors under GETFUND for projects executed last week.
He confirmed to Citi Business News that a number of contractors have received their cheques after a protracted delay.
While commending government on honoring its promise, Mr. Ledi stated that it is important to avoid delays since it eroded the profits of contractors.
“We said in our press release as well that the government should not stop the payment but rather continue and complete all payments. We urge the Finance Minister and the GETFund administrator to continue with payment until all contractors are paid,” he stressed.
Mr. Ledi stated that even though the association does not expect government to make a bullet payment it is important to keep to the timetable for payments.
The Association last month charged government to take pragmatic steps to honour its campaign promises pertaining to the unpaid Ghanaian contractors.
The association in a press release also enquired of the status of the $1.5 billion dollars loan contracted by the government of Ghana through GETFUND to pay contractors for works done.
They then demanded that Government respects the contractual provision for Payments of interests on delayed payments for works executed by contractors.
Mr. Ledi however directed that the Association will monitor the payments to ascertain that all contractors owed money receive their cheques.
