The Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh has directed the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education Winneba (UEW), Reverend Father Prof Anthony Afful-Broni to immediately reinstate the over 30 staff including senior lecturers he has dismissed.

At an emergency meeting held at the North Campus of the University on Thursday march 14, 2019, it was also agreed that six principal staff of the University who were dismissed by authorities have had their dismissals revoked and will now proceed on early retirement.

They are also to be compensated and all salaries due them paid up to the agreed date which begins the early retirement date.

According to the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), over 30 different categories of staff including senior lecturers of the University of Winneba have been “sacked, suspended and demoted arbitrary” for various reasons.

UTAG argued Prof Afful-Broni was at his investiture tasked to resolve the longstanding impasse between the university and some staff of the university, some of who took legal action against the university over some of its decisions.

But at Thursday’s meeting attended by Vice Chancellor Reverend Father Prof Anthony Afful-Broni, Member of Parliament (MP) for Efutu Constituency in the Central region, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, MP for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong, Chief of Winneba Osabarima Neenyi Neity, and Registrar of the UEW Paul Osei Barimah it was agreed that Professor Mawutor Avoke the former Vice Chancellor, Dr. Theophilus Senyo Ackorlie, the former Finance Officer, Daniel Tetteh, Sena Deke, Mary Dzimey and Frank Owusu Boateng rather proceed on early retirement and be compensated.

MyNewsGh.com sources at the meeting reveal that those who were dismissed last week including Professor Ephraim Avea Nsoh former Upper East Regional Minister and Principal of the College of Languages Education at Ajumako and one Dr. Frimpong Kakyire Duku who is the local President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) must be recalled immediately.
