Former Power Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Pru East Constituency, Dr Kwabena Donkor has said 75% of Members of Parliament in Ghana have High Blood Pressure or diabetes as a result of their work.

Dr Kwabena Donkor was speaking to Umaru Sanda Amadu on Citi Citi Eyewitness news’ Point Blank segment Tuesday on the pressures he endured in office as Power Minister under the erstwhile John Mahama administration when “dumsor” was at its peak.

He said the job is a pressure job, and not surprising, about 75% of his colleagues in Parliament “have BP or diabetes”.

Dr Kwabena Donkor said he resigned from the position not because he failed to solve dumsor, but “because some elements within the NDC where acting funny”, disclosing he ended dumsor by December 2015.

He refused to say whether given the same job again, he would take it.

On health of MPs, it was revealed last year, that out of 275 Members of Parliament(MP), only 100 of them have so far visited the Parliamentary Clinic for frequent medical screening or review.

This was according to Dr. Mark Assibey-Yeboah,[ MP for New Juaben South.

According to Dr. Assibey-Yeboah, Parliament made it available to MPs to go for full health screening but most of them have not been keen to take advantage of the system.
