Ashanti Regional Director of the National Disaster and Management Organization (NADMO), Mr. Kwabena Nsenkyere has fired at city planners and other technocrats in the country accusing them of being responsible for the recurring floods in some parts of the country recently as result of their refusal to play proper supervisory roles before granting permits for the erection of structures.
“Ghanaian engineers don’t think far”, he opined during a panel discussion on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM’s morning show hosted by Papa Nyameke De Akwatic.
According to the NADMO Director, the lackadaisical and unpatriotic attitude of some civil servants with the local assemblies has resulted in too many deaths of innocent Ghanaians and several properties destroyed.
“I will not say Ghanaians engineers are block heads neither will I say they do not know what to do. They only keep quite in their comfort for the worse to happen”, Mr. Kwabena Nsenkyere fumed on ‘Kro Yimu Nsem’ political talk show.
His anger was triggered by recent deaths recorded in Accra following hours of torrential rains this week with reports of a similar incident that displaced several persons within the Kumasi Metropolis following hours of torrential rainfall.
Properties estimated at several millions of Ghana cedis were said to have been destroyed with some masts of radio stations pulled down.
Many were displaced after the downpour as roofs of some homes were ripped off; others were forced to evacuate as flood waters invaded their rooms in the night at Afful Nkwanta, Stadium and Asokwa all in the Kumasi metropolis.
