The capital of the Sunyani West District of the Bono Region, Odumase, could pass for Ghana’s drinking hub as it has up to 200 drinking spots, MyNewsGh.com reports.

The town never sleeps as loud music and colourful beams of light spice the vibrant nightlife from every corner of the suburbs.

The town has become a centre of attraction for revelers from across the Bono capital as vibrant youth give in to hard liquor, smoking and dancing the nights away every given day.

Rutchen Pub, Bantama Spot and Amina’s Spot are some of the popular joints, where revelers hangout, though other pubs can be counted at any other lane.

A source from the Ghana Aids Commission who confided in MyNewsGh.com on condition of strict anonymity said the dreaded HIV/AIDS is prevalent in the town, and attributed it to the town’s unrelenting nightlife.

She said four out of every ten young persons in the town could test positive for the disease, compelling the Ghana AIDS Commission to embark on a peer education exercise at the night clubs.

Under the Ghana AIDS Commission initiative, peer educators are deployed to the night clubs every weekend to counsel girls to know the HIV statuses and distributing free condoms and vagina lubricants to aid them have a safe sex if they are unable to abstain.

The Sunyani West District Assembly resolved to control the decadence that the town’s nightlife has brought about by getting all spots to close by 11 PM by the latest, but it never saw the light of day.

The Sunyani West DCE, Hon. Martin Obeng was heavily criticised when he openly complained about the negative impact the town’s nightlife is having on the youth.

The traditional authority is also struggling to bring the situation under control.
