The National Identification Authority says it will not shield its officials who engage in any form of crime in the ongoing mass Ghana card registration exercise.
This comes on the back of alleged misconduct of some NIA officials relating to two incidents which occurred on Monday 6th May and Tuesday 7th May 2019.
Some officials of the NIA had been accused of registering people in a private residence at Kaneshie and others have also been arrested for illegally registering foreigners.
“The NIA will not shield officials who engage in crime. The general public should also not shield NIA staffs who engage in any kind of corrupt practice or crime,” a statement from the NIA stated.
The statement signed by the Head of Corporate Affairs at NIA, ACI Francis Palmdeti, asked the general public not to panic about the safety of their information as everything is properly secured.
On Tuesday, there was a report about a 26-year-old suspect, Timothy Wuni, an NIA registration officer spotted by his supervisor in the process of registering two Nigerien nationals at the Abossey Okai Central Mosque registration centre.
The two Nigerian suspects were Alhassan Abdul Samed and Abubakar Ruali.
The suspects ran away when they were confronted by some officials of the NIA.
National Identification Authority (NIA) also denied reports that some Ghanaians are being registered for the Ghana card registration in a private residence at Kaneshie in Accra.
The Public Relations officer said although the issue had been brought to their attention, only one machine was found in the said house which is not enough to execute the full process of the registration.
Ghana card registration
The National Identification Authority (NIA) started the mass registration and Ghana Card issuance exercise in the Greater Accra Region from Monday, April 29, 2019, and expected to end on Saturday, July 6, 2019.
The region has been divided into two zones: Accra West and Accra East, where registration centres have been opened at specific locations.
