South Africa’s Former President Jacob Zuma has claimed that unknown people have threatened to kill him and his family. The former Head of state said an anonymous caller threatened to kill him and his children after the first day of questioning at a corruption inquiry on July 15.
On the second day of his testimony on the State Capture inquiry on Tuesday July 16, Zuma alleged that his personal assistant who answered the telephone call on Monday night was told to tell him that they were going to kill him, his children, and people around him.
In a live televised testimony on Enca and monitored by Zambian Eye, Presiding Judge Ray Zondo said any threats of violence and intimidation are totally unacceptable, adding that witnesses called before the commission of inquiry must be granted the utmost protection.
Zondo who is also South African Deputy Chief Justice, said he has some doubt however on whether there was a level of protection available to former head of state that was higher than what Zuma already receives.
The inquiry is investigating allegations that the former president oversaw a web of corruption during his term in office.
The allegations against Zuma focus on his relationship with the controversial Gupta family, which was accused of influencing cabinet appointments and other state tenders through corruption.
Meanwhile Zuma has denied all earlier testimonies earlier made by senior government officials. He how ever has accused two former Ministers of being spies.
