A Zambian woman has been sentenced to life imprisonment at Guanzhou women’s prison, Guangdong province, in China, after being convicted of drug trafficking.

The woman identified as Ms. Natasha Kabunda, who was arrested earlier this year at Baiyun International Airport for trying to smuggle 992 grams of cocaine in China.

Facts of the matter were that Ms Kabunda was given drugs between the months of May and June, by unknown Nigerian men who promised to give her USD 1500 if she helped transfer their parcel successfully from Bole International Airport in Ethiopia to China.

However, upon arrival in China the authorities checked through her parcel and arrested her.

Drug trafficking is a felony offense in China.

The maximum sentence for anyone convicted of selling or producing more than 50 grams of heroin is the death penalty.
