NPP Primaries: Former MD of ADB ‘fights’ Prof Gyan Baffour over Wenchi seat

A former Managing Director of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), Nana Yaw Opoku Atuahene has picked his nomination forms to contest in the constituency parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The retired banker comes up against development economist and Minister of Planning Professor George Yaw Gyan-Baffour who understand will seek a fifth term.

He contested the Wenchi constituency parliamentary election in 2004 on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party. He won the election and went on to win the three subsequent elections in 2008, 2012 and 2016 he is however set to meet a stiffer opposition in seeking another term with the emergence of some notable figures from the area.

Earlier this week, some Electoral Area Coordinators of the NPP in the Wenchi Constituency in the Bono Region picked nomination forms for the Former Managing Director of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) Nana Yaw Opoku Atuahene to contest

Mr Augustine Tabiri the Electoral Area Coordinator of Kaamu/ Gensoso electoral area revealed to MyNewsGh.com that majority of the electoral area coordinators declared their support for Nana Yaw Opoku Atuahene to lead the NPP chapter in Wenchi.

He explained that their decision to support and campaign for Nana Yaw Opoku Atuahene was because he is the grassroots man who knows the challenges facing by the grassroots in the party adding that, the former ADB MD has the party at heart.

“Through Nana Yaw Opoku Atuahene many of our youth have been recruited into the police service, the Immigration service, the Ghana National Fire service.

Being a Managing Director of ADB, Nana Yaw Opoku Atuahene lowered himself to serve as a Presiding Member of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly and now an electoral area coordinator” Mr Augustine Tabiri emphasized.

Explaining why he is the best bet for the area he stressed “he has not become an MP but he has started helping people so please let us support him to lead NPP to come and do more for us”
