Two out of six fishermen identified as Teye Joseph who is believed to be in his early 40’s and Kwaku Narh also 38-years-old have been arrested by the Asesewa District Police Command in the Eastern Region for allegedly drowning a suspected thief in the Volta Lake.

The rest of the accomplices were also identified as  Gatorgbor, Kennedy, Shortee, and Kwasi Pepe.

According to reports, the fishermen arrested the victim identified as Yidekpo Nyanvor who is a resident of Asikoko for allegedly stealing a fishing net.

The mob immediately tied him up with a rope and marched him to Asikoko community where the victim claimed the net was kept but was false.

The Chief Fisherman in Asikoko Community upon sensing the danger on the victim’s life pleaded that the mob hands over the victim to him until his parents’ returns and they settle the case amicably.

According to an eyewitness, the mob refused to hand over the victim to the Chief Fisherman and subjected him to inhumane treatment, tied him up and threw him into the Volta Lake.

The parents upon their return reported the case to the Asesewa District Police Command after asking the whereabout of their son. The police managed to arrest two of the suspects but the other four escaped.

The two suspects said in their statement that the victim escaped and jumped into the Volta Lake.

However, the two have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime.

They have been remanded by the Koforidua District Court as the case is being adjourned to June 11, 2020.
