Our year was going perfectly fine until a couple of months ago when we were hit by the coronavirus which kept us home for months. While we were thinking of how we were going to keep ourselves entertained during this period, due to the blessing of the internet and social media, we didn’t have to worry that much.

Check out our Top Ten Quarantine trends that kept us entertained during the lockdown.

DADA AWU PALLBEARERS

One of the biggest trends of the year was the world’s obsession with the Prampram Pallbearers. Aided by an infectious beat, social media had a field day creating memes, gifs and videos from these guys. They also became an effective method of telling people to stay home due to the virus.

 FELLOW GHANAIANS

Then came the weekly Presidential addresses by H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo informing us about the various measures being taken to curb the virus. Even though these addresses were serious, Ghanaians always found a way to play it down and bring out the humour in it.

 “BY JUNE DIERR”

Then came the famous slogan” by June dier” indicating that the virus would have cleared all of us out by June. But its July and we are still here.

 TIKTOK

Prior to 2020, TikTok wasn’t as popular as it is today. With trends like “I’m a savage” “When it rains it pours” we were thoroughly entertained by short videos from the app and it even led to the rise of Ghanaian TikTok stars like Jacqueline Mensah and others.

 Kennedy Agyapong Vs Obinim

We were also glued to our TV sets following a series of exposes by popular Ghanaian politician Kennedy Agyapong against his arch-nemesis Pastor Obinim. Ghanaians just couldn’t get enough of the scandalous allegations that Kennedy levelled against Angel Obinim.

 DATE RUSH

Another TV Show that kept us glued to our seat was TV3’s dating show Date Rush. With personalities like Emefa, Barbie among others, Ghanaians just couldn’t get enough of the show.

 DON’T LEAVE ME CHALLENGE

Then came the famous Don’t Leave Me challenges that took over social media. Similar to FaceOff by Kwadwo Sheldon, this challenge hoped to find the most ridiculous puns people could come up with.

BENIN

The mass exodus of Ghanaians to Benin also entertained us during this time. As Ghanaians complained of the hardship they faced here, our only option was to follow Mallams instructions and move to Benin.

HUSHPUPPI

The arrest of Popular Nigerian Big Boy Hushpuppi was one of the trends that entertained us during this time.

 ENTANGLEMENT

The drama in the marriage of American movie star Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith has given us all the entertainment we need to keep us excited till next year.
