Somali lawmakers on Wednesday approved President Farmajo’s nomination of Mohamed Hussein Roble as Somalia’s new prime minister in a landslide vote.

According to Parliament Speaker Mohamed Mursal Abdirahman, all 215 members of parliament casting their votes in the session attended by Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed in the capital Mogadishu endorsed Roble as premier.

“All MPs attended today’s sitting (215) endorsed him, no rejection, and no abstention,” announced Mursal.

Roble was appointed by president Farmajo on the 17th of this month, replacing Hassan Ali Khaire who was ousted last July in a vote of no-confidence tabled following a power struggle with the head of state.

Roble promised that he would build an effective government and address the key issues facing the Horn of Africa nation, including its security, social infrastructure and the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
