GBARMGA, Oct. 26 (LINA) – The lack of a functional ambulance at the CB Dumbar Hospital in Gbarnga, Bong County is posing a serious challenge to the operations of the hospital as the entity’s Administration is constrained to transport critically ill patients, pregnant women and children in defective vehicles – a grim situation which authorities say must be addressed urgently.
The Administration of the hospital, however, reiterated its appeal for an ambulance to avoid the use of faulty vehicles as a means to transport patients especially in times of emergencies.
Speaking to the Liberia News Agency in Gbarnga recently, the Chief Medical Officer of the hospital, Dr. Kezelebah S. Goyah, confirmed that most often the CB Dunbar Maternal Hospital is challenged in transporting critically ill patients, especially pregnant women due to limited ambulance service at the hospital.
Dr. Goyah narrated that on Saturday, October 17, a critically ill lady was transported on board an old open back Pickup Truck from Camp Narmah in District #4, Bong County, disclosing that nurses were constrained to administer treatment to the lady while she was being transported on board the Pickup.
According to him, the CB Dunbar Maternal Hospital caters to at least eight delivery cases daily, adding that most of the cases which require urgent surgery are reported from rural Bong County.
Dr. Goyah cited that if the entity is provided ambulances that will quickly reach remote towns and villages in Bong and surrounding areas, it will help to save many lives in the county which has a population of over 300 thousands.
Meanwhile, Dr. Goyah lauded the Liberia News Agency for highlighting the plight of the hospital, noting that it will help to draw the attention of the government, as well as local and international partners to intervene.
The CB Dunbar Maternal Hospital, caters to patients not only from rural Bong County, but also neighboring Grand Bassa and Gbapolu Counties as well as neighboring Guinea.
