Election 2020: Residents Burn Tyres, Block Roads To Prevent Transportation Of Electoral Materials

Residents of Whindo a suburb of the Effia-Kwesimintim municipal assembly in the Kwesimintin Constituency in the Western Region have taken the law into their own hands, preventing officials from the Electoral Commission to transport electoral materials to polling centres in the area.

They have blocked all access routes by burning car tyres over what they consider to be government’s inaction on the dilapidated state of their roads.

Residents vow not to allow the EC to engage in today’s exercise.

PeaceFM’s Correspondent Appiah Dankwah who reported from the scene, claim personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service are fighting hard to douse the flames. Meanwhile, a heavy security presence have been deployed to assist the electoral officers transport their materials to the various polling stations.

No arrest has been made as yet.
