Ewe women have always been revered to be powerful and once upon a time in ancient Anloland, there lived a Gallant Ewe Female warrior who was renowned for her mystical powers and bravery on the battlefield.
She was “#MAMA_YAKAGBE” and She was said to have fought alongside the Anlo warriors in the #DatuTagba war of 1866.
She was said to possess supernatural powers which she displayed on the battleground and for her gallantry in the war ‘’a chief’s Stool of Valour’’ was created for her after the war.
This stool is said to still be in ATORKOR (Adela Ako Korpe) and is regarded as one of the powerful Stools of Anlo.
She is revered for he courage and celebrated in songs and folklores of Ewe traditions and culture.
Mama Yakagbe also used unique skills to collect valuable data about the enemies vulnerability and plans. She feigned madness and went into the enemies’ town as a spy and gathered valid information which helped win the war.
When everyone was asleep, she (acting like a mad woman) would secretly send word to her people. When they had gathered enough information and discovered the vulnerability of their enemies, they struck them unaware.
She made her warriors position themselves somewhere around the enemies territory and then she torched their thatch houses. And when all the men came out to douse the fire caused by a ‘mad woman’, The Anlo warriors besieged them and killed them.
