Afghanistan’s former President Ashraf Ghani is reportedly in exile in Oman after fleeing the country following the Taliban’s takeover.

Russian sources disclosed that he is in exile in Oman after early reports suggested he had fled to Tajikistan after escaping Kabul and effectively ceding power to the Taliban on Sunday August 15.

The Taliban terror group swept into the capital on Sunday after the US government withdrew troops and Ashraf Ghani fled the country ‘to avoid bloodshed’, bringing the nearly 20-year Western intervention to an end.

The Russian Embassy in Kabul said on Monday that Ghani had fled the country with four cars and a helicopter full of cash, and had to leave some money behind as it would not all fit in.

However, the former Afghan President’s whereabouts has not been officially revealed, but Russian sources are insisting that he flew directly from Kabul to the Sultanate of Oman, across the Persian Gulf from Afghanistan.

Reports from Al-Jazeera later claimed he had flown to Uzbekistan, citing his personal bodyguard.

One Afghan diplomat who has not been named said: ‘There is no exact information about the whereabouts of the escaped president. According to some sources, he flew from Kabul directly to the Sultanate of Oman.’ However, Kazakhstan has denied he flew via its territory.

It is sad and terrible to see citizens of Afghanistan flee their own country with nothing only for them to save their dear lives as Taliban takes over their country.

Taliban fighters are currently occupying the Afghanistan Presidential Palace after they were able to take control of the capital city of Kabul.

In the rush to flee the Taliban, over 650 Afghans were crowded aboard one US Air Force transport plane, according to a new photo from the evacuation of Kabul.

The photograph from Sunday shows over 640 Afghans who had been allowed to escape jammed onto the C-17 Globemaster II cargo plane, considerably more than the plane’s capacity.

The photo displayed online showed residents of Kabul packed in the US military aircraft, they boarded the aircraft with absolutely nothing to carry along. See photo below;

The photo above has evoked several reactions from Nigerians who chanced upon the photo. As many pray they get saved, others have realized that everything garnered in this world is vanity. Tontrends culled some reactions below;
