The “Stations Météos Togo” project was officially inaugurated on May 3, 2022, by the Togolese Ministry of Agriculture and the Teolis Foundation. Farmers around the country will benefit from this project, which will give weather data.
In practice, digital stations will be set up across the country to track crucial parameters that determine agricultural cycles.
Temperature, sunshine, pressure, air humidity, wind direction, wind speed, rainfall, soil temperature, humidity, salinity, and conductivity are all collected every five minutes by these digital stations. “This data will assist farmers decide where, when, and what to seed, how to maintain the land, and when to harvest,” says Michel Bagnah, president of the Teolis Foundation.
A total of 120 stations will be installed, in addition to the 12 that were successfully launched in January 2021. Over 400 installations should eventually cover the entire territory.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, this project “helps boost the agricultural sector,” which is one of Togo’s economic cornerstones.
Agriculture development is, in fact, one of the Togolese government’s top priorities, according to the Roadmap 2025. The ministry of agriculture has been allotted CFA45 billion under the 2022 financial law.
Teolis’ AGRITEOLIS package includes “Stations Météos Togo.” Other digital projects in this category include “digital collars for animals,” which will be launched soon.
